Halloween, ¿Cristiano?

Mientras
entraba y salía de tienda en tienda, hace unos días, no paraba de encontrarme
las mismas cosas, brujas, demonios, fantasmas, sangre, vampiros, máscaras,
esqueletos, muerte e inframundo, a cuál más aterrador. Casi pensé que estaba de
nuevo en Estados Unidos, pero me tuve que recordar a mí misma que estaba en mi
hogar, Australia.[1]
Me
pregunto ¿por qué las tiendas de Australia ponen estos horribles ítems a la
venta? ¿Por qué los australianos se están preparando para celebrar una fiesta
muy americana? Los americanos no celebran las fiestas australianas. La pregunta
para muchos es, ¿realmente importa si celebramos Halloween el 31 de octubre?

Halloween History and the Bible

When
did this holiday begin and why? How should Christians view this day in general?
To understand these questions further, we need to go back to the roots of
Halloween.
In the
United States (and other countries), Halloween has become one of the most
popular unofficial holidays. On the up side, retail sales boost the economy
around this holiday.[1]
On the
down side, the holiday has become a time of increased crime in many places
(especially arson and other acts of violence) on Halloween night as well as the
night before. Even the author’s house was robbed one Halloween by forced entry.
So, although the retail industry loves Halloween, many police officers and
insurance companies dread it! Of course, there is also a tremendous amount of
occult activity associated with this holiday.
Kids
and even many adults love getting dressed up for Halloween. And they love the
candy, of course. It’s just innocent fun, isn’t it—or is it? But let’s think
carefully and biblically about the history, nature, and impact of the holiday.
When

more behind Halloween history? How should Christians view this day in general?

Each
year on October 31, millions of people celebrate Halloween by dressing up as
witches, devils, and demons. Besides parties for adults, the day has become an
occasion for children to go from house to house, often in costumes, demanding
“trick or treat.”
The
name Halloween derives from the Roman Catholic holiday All Saints’ Day, The
Feast of All Saints, or All Hallows’ Day (hallow means “to make holy” or
“consider something sacred”), celebrated on November 1. All Saints’ Day
commemorates the saints who have not been assigned a special day in the
calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. The day before All Saints’ Day was
called All Hallows’ Eve, from which Halloween is derived.
